Alchemy
On mastery in a world that keeps changing.
In a world that is constantly changing, I still do think that it is useful and at least a better way to live your live your life to build incredible skill at something deeply technical or hard to learn. And you might say that by the nature of the world, people like me have gone out of fashion but hear me out.
In a constantly changing world there are still the craftsmen. There are still highly-skilled-highly-valued experts.
The world still allows companies like of wildly different business models to thrive. For Every Samsung, there is Apple. For every Sony, there is Leica. For every Toyota, there is the Lamborghini.
The proponents of experts theory says it takes 10 years to deeply master something, and for anyone spending time mastering any particular hard skill, it is a testament that they know how to acquire skills. And who is to say that they can't and won't acquire other skills needed to survive in a constantly changing world on the day to day basis while they build themselves into expert craftsmen in their chosen field?
Worse case scenerio they are going to live life doing work they aren't super in love with, like a normal job, worse thing scenerio, they are going to end up like almost everyone else in the post industrial world, getting paid and earning a living although not doing what they love. One might argue that, that doesn't suffice as a worse case, but I leave that to you and your imagination to ponder.
Best case scenario, for every Toyota Rav 4, you become the Lamborghini Revuelto.
